My role is to manage and support the committee to host events that fundraise and engage with the Hub’s mission. The committee would be eager to collaborate with other societies to jointly organise events that raise awareness about specific issues.

My role is to be the first point of contact for members of the Ethical Network; keeping the network connected, supported and helping it to grow. I run the Facebook Group, circulate useful information on possibilities for collaboration, and host our networking events to help members of the Ethical Network.

Advisory Board

The Advisory Board ensures that Cambridge Hub thrive as a result of being well embedded in the university and community environment. By bringing together individuals and organisations with varied perspectives and expertise, our Advisory Board helps the Cambridge Hub to identify which activities to prioritise, as well as ensuring coordination of messaging and activities with other stakeholders.

Meet our current Advisory Board

Joanna Chamberlain - Head of Environment and Energy at the University of Cambridge

Joanna provides strategic direction to the University and is responsible for developing and implementing long-term plans to reduce the University’s carbon emissions and improve its environmental sustainability. Prior to joining the University of Cambridge in July 2012, she was Senior Policy Adviser for Sustainable Development at HEFCE, leading the development and implementation of HEFCE`s sustainable development strategy and carbon reduction strategy for higher education in England. She has previously served as Chair and Charity Trustee of the Bristol Children’s Scrapstore and on the Executive Committee of the Environmental Association for Universities and Colleges.

Martin Clark - Deputy Chief Executive, Allia

Martin Clark is Deputy Chief Executive of Allia, a social enterprise which issues charitable bonds nationally and runs social enterprise centres with over 70 diverse tenants in Cambridge. He led the development of Allia’s ‘Future Business Centre’, an £8M purpose-built social and environmental business incubator near Cambridge Science Park. He is a Fellow of the Centre for Social Innovation at the Cambridge Judge Business School and has been a judge for the Cambridge University Entrepreneurs (CUE) £1k and £5k Business Plan competitions since 2011. He is passionate about using social enterprise to tackle social problems, and is the author of The Social Entrepreneur Revolution (Marshall Cavendish 2009).

Professor Graham Virgo - Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Education and Professor of English Private Law

In his role as Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Education Graham Virgo is responsible for the education and learning experience of undergraduate, postgraduate and part-time students in the University, as well as having responsibility for libraries and sport. He read Law at Downing College, where he is now a Fellow. He was Senior Tutor of the College for a decade. He is Professor of Law in the Faculty of Law where he teaches and researches on aspects of the Criminal law, trusts and charities and the law of restitution.

Dr Philip Howell - University Senior Lecturer and Fellow of Emmanuel College

Philip Howell lectures at the Department of Geography, notably on the history of globalisation, on geographies of citizenship, and on social regulation. He has published widely in cultural and historical geography, and is the author of monographs on the regulation of prostitution in nineteenth-century Britain and the British Empire, and on the public and private life of the domestic dog in Victorian Britain. Dr Howell has been a director of studies in Geography, a personal tutor, and an Admissions Tutor at Emmanuel College for many years, and participates in a number of access and widening participation projects.

Jane Kershaw – Corporate Governance and Planning Manager at CHS

With over 20 years’ experience at a senior level in cross-sector programme/project management, coaching and governance, Jane’s professional focus is on supporting individuals, teams and organisations to grow. She is particularly interested in the role volunteering can play in that process and brings a range of relevant perspectives to the Advisory Board: as project manager from a partner organisation (of the LinkAges Cambridge pilot), as a former manager at the Judge Business School, as parent of a current Cambridge undergraduate and as a campaigner in the early development of business-led employee volunteering.

Jane is currently a trustee of the Prospects Trust and volunteer coach for a number of charities.

Anna Malan - Development Officer (Regular Giving), Jesus College

Anna is a member of the Development Office at Jesus College, Cambridge, where she manages the College's Regular Giving programme. This involves working with senior management to raise funds for the College's provisioning of bursaries, scholarships, teaching and access initiatives through establishing and maintaining relationships with the College's alumni, as well as fundraising for capital projects. Prior to this Anna was Cambridge Hub's Manager, with overall responsibility for the strategy, operations and finances of the Cambridge branch of Student Hubs. Anna is also a yoga instructor and teaches in the Cambridge area.
