How do we turn talk into action?
Engage for Change is a programme for people who want to learn to make change happen, through having effective conversations with those around them. You will design, implement and evaluate your own environmental sustainability-related interventions, using the University as a testing-ground for the skills that you'll develop through the programme.

Successful applicants will be invited to sign up for interview slots on the afternoon of Friday 12th April. Interviews are on 15th and 16th April.
The programme begins on 6th May, and will run through Easter term, with weekly meetings at 5:30-7pm on Mondays.

Want to:

In six weeks, you will develop an environment-related intervention within the University estate, big or small. You need no prior knowledge, not even an idea of what you want to do!
Our programme covers all these things and more, with a focus on listening and communicating for positive impact, Action-Experiment Cycles, strategic change-making, advocacy and influencing, and effective real-world monitoring and evaluation. These are all skills that you can use for social change-making, but which are also directly applicable to a range of future careers.
Who can apply?
We're looking for self-motivated individuals with initiative and interest in the environment, who want to explore and implement innovative solutions to sustainability challenges. Your existing skills will be complemented by a programme of in-depth training. Engage for Change lasts for 6 weeks, with opportunities to deepen your learning through ongoing mentoring and support.
The programme is open to all current students and post-docs of the University of Cambridge, whatever your subject or experience. If selected for the programme, you will receive training and support to help you develop the skills needed to meet the challenge.
How does it work?
We use a 'flipped classroom' approach for the programme - you get a handbook and workbook at the start, which contains all the information and resources you need, and exercises to help you unpack them. This makes the programme very self-directed, and personal to you. Our training sessions are entirely skills-based, comprised of group work and conversation, and focussed on the skills you want to develop.
Who's running it?
Cambridge Hub, the centre of student social action in Cambridge, delivers the programme, with the kind support of the Environment and Energy team, who drive the sustainable environmental transformation of the University. This will be the forth time we've delivered EfC, after highly successful and impactful Easter, Michaelmas and Lent Term cohorts, which have led to numerous ongoing projects, covering topics such as food waste, green transport, energy consumption, and education. How much time commitment is expected?
Based upon the experience of previous candidates, to get the most out of the programme you will need to contribute at minimum 4 hours a week, which includes 90min of training per week. You can of course use more time!
